Justice Mitchell, Starmark vice president interactive & social creative director, will speak about social media’s emerging importance to the medical world at the South Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association 2012 Annual Summit June 8th at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.
In his talk, “Social Media in Medicine,” Mitchell will inform the medical establishment of the role social media now plays in the relationship between patients and caregivers (hospitals and physicians).
“Physicians are being placed in more of a customer service capacity and they must have a broader appeal to their patients (customers) than simply diagnosis is order to gain market share,” said Mitchell. “Social media can be used within the lifecycle of a patient’s care and retain a customer’s loyalty.”
Additionally, hospitals are now being seen as destinations, he added. Patients have a multitude of options for healthcare facilities, so the onus is on hospitals to develop deeper relationships with patients. “Hospitals can construct avenues of feedback beyond the basic phone call and email,” said Mitchell. “They now have social media channels whereby they can introduce the facility, conduct surveys, send alerts and updates.”
Mitchell will also join a panel on the subject of “Social Media Markets in Medicine.” He is expected to be speaking from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
